International Symposium 1
(partly offering for public abstract submission): “Reno-cardio syndrome
in dialysis patients ” |
Cardiac disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in chronic dialysis patients.
Recent clinical trials showed negative results on the effect of treatment of anemia and dyslipidemia on survival. Dialysis patients suffer both conventional and non-conventional coronary risk factors in addition to inherent volume overload or electrolyte imbalance due to ESRD state. In this symposium, speakers discuss the complexity and heterogeneity of cardiac disease among dialysis patients. |
International Symposium 2
(partly offering for public abstract submission):“Management of renal anemia
in dialysis patients” |
The 2004 Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy Guidelines for renal anemia
in hemodialysis (HD) patients has recommended target Hb value in patients
undergoing HD be in a range of 10 to 11g/dL. In reality, however, the actual
Hb value of around 40% of Japanese dialysis patients is below the target
value despite a fact that enough erythropoietin and iron are administered.
Darbopoetin-alfa, which has become available in Japan since July 2007,
has been expected to play a major role for anemia management, which eventually
leads to prevention of the cardiovascular disease and improvement of the
life prognosis as well. In Europe, the United States, and Asian countries,
they have already had a lot of data based on a long-term experience of
darbopoetin-alfa.
So, in this symposia, we would like to discuss about how to manage the
renal anemia including optimal target Hb value. |
