| Call for abstracts for the International Session |
| International Sessions will be held during the 53rd Congress of Japanese
Society for Dialysis Therapy in Kobe. |
1) Oral / Poster Presentations
We are afraid that we would NOT have oral/poster presentation this year. |
2) International Symposiums
There will be 3 International Symposiums and 1 International Workshop held
during the 53rd Congress of JSDT. These symposiums and workshop partly
offer for public submission of abstracts.
International Symposium 1 (partly offering for public abstract submission):
“Reno-cardio syndrome in dialysis patients ”
Cardiac disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in chronic
dialysis patients.Recent clinical trials showed negative results on the
effect of treatment of anemia and dyslipidemia on survival. Dialysis patients
suffer both conventional and non-conventional coronary risk factors in
addition to inherent volume overload or electrolyte imbalance due to ESRD
state. In this symposium, speakers discuss the complexity and heterogeneity
of cardiac disease among dialysis patients.
International Symposium 2 (partly offering for public abstract submission):
“Management of renal anemia in dialysis patients”
The 2004 Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy Guidelines for renal anemia in hemodialysis (HD) patients has recommended target Hb value in patients undergoing HD be in a range of 10 to 11g/dL. In reality, however, the actual Hb value of around 40% of Japanese dialysis patients is below the target value despite a fact that enough erythropoietin and iron are administered. Darbopoetin-alfa, which has become available in Japan since July 2007, has been expected to play a major role for anemia management, which eventually leads to prevention of the cardiovascular disease and improvement of the life prognosis as well. In Europe, the United States, and Asian countries, they have already had a lot of data based on a long-term experience of darbopoetin-alfa. So, in this symposia, we would like to discuss about how to manage the renal anemia including optimal target Hb value.
International Symposium 3 (invited speaker) :
“Dialysis in conflict area”
International Workshop (partly offering for public abstract submission):
“Vascular access management”

The text of abstracts should be written consecutively in the order of [Purpose], [Method], [Result], and [Conclusion].
In the box for the main text, please write the text without the title, name of authors, the organization to which authors belong, and index words. Consequently, please note that even if line feed is designated appropriately for good appearance when preparing the text of an abstract, the ideal effects cannot be expected after printed.
In addition, do not use hyphenation (cutting and hyphenating a word at the end of a line to start a new line). The ends of lines will not necessarily accord with printing.
2. Guidelines of Abstract Submission
1) Fill in the all mandatory blanks.
*Fill in the blanks from the left. The registration is not available without inputting mandatory items.
* The blanks should be filled in from the left, also in the main text of abstracts.
2) Characters available

* Tags to use superscript, subscript, italic face, bold face, underline, and line feed, including , , <I></I>, <B></B>, <U></U>, and <BR>, must be in 1 byte characters.

4. FAQs for online abstract submission
The followings are frequently asked questions for online abstract submission.
Q.I cannot remember my password.
A.For security purposes, we are unable to answer any questions regarding
passwords. Please keep a copy of your password to avoid this situation.
Q.When I clicked the “Submit” button, the error message “timed out” appeared
on the screen.
A.If you take more than 60 minutes to submit an abstract, the page you
are working on will expire.
Please create your abstract using a word processor application in advance and then copy and paste the abstract text to the text box on the abstract registration page instead of typing it in directly to save time.
Q.What is the difference between cipher communication and plaintext communication?
A.Using cipher communication is highly recommended when you submit an abstract
or check/revise your registered information. It prevents from intercepting
on-line communications and unauthorized access by third parties to your
registered information to cancel or revise. Plaintext communication should
be used only if you are not able to use cipher communication (your facility
or provider’s settings may have a problem, or you are using an older version
of a browser).
Q.When I clicked the “Submit” button, the error message says, “the number
of characters are exceeded in authors and organization fields”, even if
I input those within the specified character count.
A.There might be a case that spaces are counted towards the limit of character count. Please count characters including spaces.
Q.How do I enter Roman numerals?
A.You cannot enter Roman numerals, because they are not defined in JIS code. Please combine the letters “I” and “V” to enter Roman numerals such as “II” and “IV.”
Q.What is organization number and how do I input?
A.The UMIN online abstract submission system considers the top author’s organization number as “1”. Please type organization name(s) in the organization name field(s) below contact address field, only if there are co-authors whose organizations are different from top author’s. Then check the corresponding number below each co-author’s name.
Q.Special characters change to garbled characters in the review screen
and the confirmation e-mail message.
A.For details, please refer to “FAQ for general users” at the bottom of the UMIN registration page for information regarding
entering special characters.
Q.I did not receive a confirmation e-mail message after completing personal
information registration and abstract submission.
A.You may not receive a confirmation e-mail message if your e-mail address has not been registered correctly. Acceptance notification and other conference related information will be sent to your e-mail address. Please review your e-mail address for any typing errors before completing registration.
Further questions for online abstract submission, please refer to the FAQ pages before commencing inquiry.
